PHRASAL VERBS – WEEKEND

👉 to make a place tidy
We stayed home to clean up the spare room.
👧 Our daughter’s coming home for a few months.


🟣 To chill out 😌

👉 to relax
We’ve been very busy lately.
🌿 So we really need to chill out this weekend.


🔵 To stay in 🏠

👉 to not go out, remain at home
The weather is cold and rainy.
🌧️ We’ve decided to stay in this weekend.


🟢 To wind down 🛀

👉 to relax after stress or worry
If you go on holiday, it takes a few days to wind down 😌 before you feel relaxed.


🟠 To have someone over 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

👉 to invite someone to your home
We love when kids are here.
😊 They always like to have friends over.

👉 to look quickly through something

🎯 Objective: Use phrasal verbs in familiar weekend situations.


📝 Instructions:

1️⃣ Match the phrasal verbs to their meanings.
2️⃣ Then, talk to a partner or write answers using the verbs.

🎯 Objective: Use phrasal verbs in conversation and storytelling.


🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Part 1 – Role-Play Prompt

👥 Work in pairs. Pick a scenario. Use the phrasal verbs naturally.

Choose one:

  1. 😩 You’re planning to chill out after a stressful week.

  2. 🧼 You’re expecting guests, so you need to clean up.

  3. 🍿 You’re flicking through shows, trying to wind down.


✍️ Part 2 – Write Your Weekend Story

📓 Write a short story (6–8 sentences) using 4 phrasal verbs.

Example starter:
"After a long week at work, I decided to stay in on Friday night.
I flicked through Netflix until I found a good TV show ..."
